What is Rainbow?

The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, also known as 'Rainbow,' is a 501(c)(3) non-profit youth organization open to girls ages 11-20. Our mission as an organization is to help girls flourish into confident, empowered young women through opportunities of growth and connection with their communities. At the heart of our organization are our key values of love, service, and patriotism, among many others. We strive to build the leaders of tomorrow by building girls up and teaching them the importance of community service and sisterhood.

For over 100 years, Oklahoma Rainbow has provided a space for girls to grow, express themselves, make lasting friendships, and receive mentorship which will help them become their best selves. From community service to public speaking competitions, fun events to formal dances, every girl can find her place within our Rainbow family.

Our History

The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls was founded in McAlester, Oklahoma, in 1922 by Reverend W. Mark Sexson, a Master Mason, who believed that an organization for girls would be beneficial to the youth and future of the country, and eventually, the world.

Since then, Rainbow has established Assemblies in 45 U.S. states and 9 countries, inspiring girls in every part of the world to do good for their community, and forming a bond and sisterhood that overcomes any distance.

This web page acknowledges allegiance to the Supreme Assembly, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, whose seat of authority is in McAlester, Oklahoma, of which Reverend W. Mark Sexson was the founder; Mrs. Carolyn York, Supreme Worthy Advisor; and to the Grand Jurisdiction of Oklahoma of which Mrs. Terri Brown is the Supreme Deputy. https://www.gorainbow.org/
